Lola Mae Jones Terry
Lola Mae was born in Trinity on February 9, 1921 to her parents, Benjamin Clarence and Betty Mrytle Jones. She passed away at age 94 on June 8, 2015 in Decatur.
“Aunt Lola Mae” was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Ussery C. Terry and her five brothers, Paul, Silas, Samuel, Spencer and Donald.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Agnas Jones of Hammond, IN and Mary Enslow of Tuscumbia and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her adopted daughter, Jamie Terry of Trinity.
During World War II she like many young wives went to work while her husband fought the war. She was a loving housewife and devoted her time and energy to helping others. She liked quilting and cooking. Canning was a way of life. In the summer at her house with her mom and mother-in-law, they would can just about anything that grew. Lola Mae and Ussery, like many southerners, moved north for work in the 1950s. In 1977, they returned home to Alabama. There were never any strangers around “Aunt Lola Mae.” She’d talk to you until she found out how she knew you, your parents or grandparents. She was everyone’s aunt. Even at the nursing home she kept up with who was from where and how she knew their family. She also enjoyed keeping up with current events.
Lola Mae was a member of State Street Baptist Church in Hammond, IN for many years. After returning to Alabama, she became a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Trinity for the past 30-plus years.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grange Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
