Roy Allen Underwood – Obituary

royRoy Allen Underwood, age 84, with his family by his side, passed through the gates of heaven on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in Houston Texas. He was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, on Feb. 3, 1931. Roy served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army at the time of the Korean War. After marrying Dorothy Smithson, they moved to Houston, Texas, where they raised their four children. Roy was a longtime active member and president of the Little York Civic Club Association. He was an advocate for highway and road construction. Roy retired from the Ford Motor Company and was dedicated to Ford his entire life. He had a passion for farming and gardening and ran several successful small businesses. He was a great provider for his family, and his children had wonderful and memorable childhoods. He was the last of the six children of Noah and Roxie Underwood.
He is survived by his children, Dewayne D. Underwood, Dianna Field, Roxane “Roxie” Woodall and husband, Bill, and Kristine Brown and husband, Charlie; two granddaughters, Sara Field and Victoria Field; the mother of his children, Dorothy Smithson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Jodie McCoy “Roxie” Underwood; brothers, Elvis Underwood, Thurston Underwood, James Underwood, and Tom Underwood; and sister, Frances Cox.
His family will receive friends Thursday, June 11, 2015, 6-8 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Chris Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
