velmaVelma Ann Wagner, born August 8, 1934, in Stratton, Nebraska, of parents, Gladys and Ted Blakely died May 29, 2015, in Decatur, Alabama.
Velma was raised in Newcastle, Wyoming and throughout her life lived in Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, Malta (a small island in the Mediterranean Sea), Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and Alabama. During her professional life Velma loved teaching Junior High School English, Social Studies and Art, and managed several businesses.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys Blakely and Theodore Blakely; her siblings, Richard (Dick) Blakely, James (Jim) Blakely, and Janice Blakely; and grandson, Eran Steyer.
Velma is survived by her daughters, Deb Prater and Holly Buckley; and her grandsons, Erick Steyer (Stephanie), Joshua Hall (Kat), Stanley (David) West (Prater), and Taylor Buckley; and great-grandchildren, Keaton Wakefield, Austin Steyer, Calin Hall, Caleb Steyer, David Ruiz (West), and Reena Hall; and a great-grandpuppy, Beauregard Sky Buckley. She was also survived by a variety of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the Stephenson Chapel at First Baptist Church, Decatur, Alabama on Monday, June 1, 2015, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
