William Herman Beckman, Jr., age 83 of New Market, passed away Friday at Tutt Fan. He was born in Rocky Face, GA. The family lived in Tennessee before moving to Huntsville. He attended St. Mary’s School through the 8th grade and then attended Huntsville High. After joining the National Guard in December 1949 he was called into service in August 1950 after the Korean War began and was unable to graduate from Huntsville High. He later received his diploma from the Madison County School Board. He worked at Star Market as a Produce Manager for over 20 years before leaving to start his painting business with his oldest son and trained his other sons in the discipline.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Herman and Emma Coker Beckman, three brothers, Tom Beckman Bob Beckman, and Christopher Beckman, four sisters, Rosa Humphrey, Eva McCoy, Mary McBride, and Bernadette Ramsey, and 3 infant grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Betty Beckman, four daughters, Patricia Beckman, Nancy Eason, Cheryl Campbell, and Elizabeth Bice, three sons William H. Beckman, III, James Beckman, and Richard Beckman, three brothers, Tony Beckman, Raphael Beckman, and Leo Beckman, sister, Evelyn Gentry, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00pm. A rosary will follow at 7:00pm in Spry’s Chapel. Mr. Beckman will lie-in-state at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation Wednesday from, 10:00 until 11:00am, a service follow at 11:00am at with Father Bill Kelly officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Meridianville. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to the Disabled Veterans Chapter in Huntsville or your favorite charity.
