nannieNannie Lillian Collins Lloyd, 92, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” P. Lloyd, Sr. Mrs. Lloyd was an amazing woman. Born into a north Alabama farming family, she played basketball at Tanner High School. Following high school, she worked for the draft board during WWII. She became an independent business woman when she opened her own bookkeeping business before marrying Bill Lloyd and raising four children. While raising her family, she continued her love of numbers by working 40 years at Thrasher Oil Company. Her love of sports and competition led her to league bowling at Parkway Lanes and playing bridge. She exhibited her love of community through Red Cross volunteering and First United Methodist Church. The church was central to her family and spiritual life as an early member of the McDonnell-Need Us Sunday school class. She worked with others to produce worship banners and taught children in Sunday School. She served on committees all the while transporting her kids to all manner of church choirs and activities. She lived her life by the motto “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”. We will miss this kind and strong soul in our world.
