Roger Dale Hamner died unexpectedly in Killen, Alabama on April 24, 2015, at the age of 71.
Roger is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Crow Hamner; sons Joel Roger Hamner (Laura) and Wesley Howard Hamner (Heather); sister Jimmie Lee Burns; brother Douglas Hamner (Doris); grandchildren Maddie, Lauren, Ben, Ethan, and Samuel; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Elizabeth Hamner.
He was a graduate of Florence State Teacher’s College and was employed by Liberty National for almost 40 years. He retired in 2007 after a long and successful career as an Insurance Agent.
Roger was an active member of Killen United Methodist Church where he was a member of many committees over the years. He was a longstanding member of the Killen Lion’s Club and was a past president of the Alabama Cattleman’s Association and currently served on its board of directors.
Roger loved God and his church. He was a loving and compassionate husband to wife Mary for over 50 years and was a role model to both his sons, who continue to share both his love of farming and sports. He was an exceptional grandfather to his five grandchildren and enjoyed watching and coaching his grandchildren’s sports. He was a great brother, brother-in-law, father-in-law, and friend. He enjoyed his retirement to his fullest. Roger loved talking to people and never met a stranger. He was an outstanding cattleman and an avid Alabama fan.
Visitation will be Monday, April 27, 2015, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Killen United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Bryan McIntyre officiating. Burial will be at Killen City Cemetery. Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family.
Pallbearers will be Randy Burns, Darrell Hamner, Todd Parker, Jonathan Pettus, Matthew Pettus, Jay Hendricks, and John Charles Crow. Honorary pallbearers will be the Buddy LeMaster Sunday School Class.
Memorial may be made to Killen United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 J.C. Mauldin Highway, Killen, Alabama 35645.
