Hazel Gregg Thomas, a long-time resident of Huntsville, died Tuesday the 21st of April, 2015 at her apartment home at Regency Retirement Village.
Hazel Ella Harris was born June 22, 1926 in Blackshear, GA, daughter of Martin and Lelia Harris. She moved to Huntsville, AL with her husband Homer Gregg and sons in the 1960’s. Previously she and her family lived in many places including Kansas City, MO where she worked in a munitions plant during WWII.
Hazel worked in the beauty industry for 60 years as a hairstylist and owned and managed successful salons such as Gregg’s Hairstyling. She enjoyed her profession and was a hard worker in all she did. She loved to cook and enjoyed gardening. She liked to say “My joy is the Outside” and especially loved the Coast, to fish and to socialize with friends and family.
Hazel is survived by two sons, Richard Glenn Gregg Sr. of Huntsville and Ronald Derrick Gregg (Susan) of Hazel Green; four grandchildren, Tamela Gregg Gibbs (Paul) and Richard Glenn Gregg II of Huntsville, Dawn Lovett and Rondel Derrick Gregg of Hazel Green; seven great grandchildren, Savannah and Caroline Gibbs of Huntsville, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn and Mackenzie Gregg, and Justin and Samantha Lovett all of Hazel Green; one brother Arlen Harris (Janice) of Lyles, TN; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Hazel is predeceased by her husband, four sisters and six brothers.
Visitation will be Sunday April 26 20150 at 1:00 PM at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville with funeral following at 3:00. Hazel will be interred in Blackshear, GA at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the mission fund of Hazel’s home church (Central Church of Christ, 407 East Clinton Ave. Huntsville, AL, 35801) or your favorite charity.
