Gail Genine Butler – Obituary

Gail Genine Butler died Wednesday, March 18. Born and raised in St. Louis, Gail later moved to Ohio where she met and married Andy Hansen, and had two children, Knute and Holly. Gail had an avid interest in art and took courses from the Famous Artists School, graduating in 1958.

In Westerville Ohio, she formed the Westerville Art League,and acted as president for the first two years. Moving to Huntsville in 1964, Gail continued her interest in art, participating in many art shows, including juried shows, and winning many awards. She taught art classes in her home and elsewhere, and in the 70’s pursued a degree in art from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, graduating in 1976.

Working in many mediums, her art gradually transformed from realistic scenes to symbolic imagery. Remarried, Gail worked as a graphics artist for local industries in the 80’s before retiring to spend time with her husband. Bob Butler. She continued painting and teaching, taking the name of Genine as her nom de guerre. Gail was also active in her church, the Light of Christ Center, teaching classes in various subjects related to art. Gail is survived by her daughter: Holly Hansen, and her husband: Drew Boody, and their children: Adam and Noah Hansen; and by her stepdaughter: Garland Butler.

Memorial services will be held March 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Light of Christ Center with Peggy Shanahan officiating. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SNAP (Spay/Neuter Action Project), or alz.org.
