DECATUR-Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has offered to purchase a ballistic/stab resistant vest for Decatur Police Department’s K9, Bear. Each vest is custom made. Bear should have it in a few weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of Law Enforcement and related agencies throughout the country. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. exclusively offers a state of the art bullet and stab protective vest made in the United States that offers ultimate protection for the K9. The cost is $950. Vest warranty is 5 years.
K9 Bear is an 8 year old German Shepherd Dog, is certified in Patrol and Narcotics work and is assigned to Sgt. Kyle Shelton. Sgt. Shelton has been with the Decatur, AL Police Department since 1997, and a K9 Handler since 2007. Bear became a member of the Decatur Police Department in April 2008. Bear is Decatur’s first dual purpose Police K9.
The K9 Team hit the road in August 2008 after 13 weeks of basic training with the Huntsville, AL Police Department – the 2nd oldest continuously operated Police K9 Unit in the U.S.A.
