It is with deep and heavy sadness we announce the death of a great man, Melford E. Posey. Known to
most by Mel. Mel Passed on March 15 at Huntsville Hospital. Mel was born in Chicago, II and raised in
Cherokee, Al. Mel was raised to be a good, hardworking honest man, and that he sure was. Mel always
said that if you had one true friend in a lifetime, you were lucky. Mel had many friends, good friends,
and he loved them all. Whether in sickness or in health, he always enjoyed seeing friends and family
coming to visit. He appreciated each and every phone call. Mel worked for International Paper for over
3O years. Even though he enjoyed his work and crew he spent a lot of time plotting a way to escape into
the woods for some hunting, or getting on that fishing boat with his nephew, Nick.

In 2013, Mel’s plans began to come together as he retired. He had time to do whatever he wanted. He loved waking up and meeting his buddies for breakfast, cattle sales, or just spending special time with Judy Rivers. He was such a special man. He Loved his mom and dad (Joy and Floyd), and his sisters (Jean and Veda), as a son
and brother should. He was loved dearly by his children and grandchildren. Sandy and David were always
proud to call Mel Posey their father. Mel’s life seems all too short, but he enjoyed a full life while he
walked this earth. He was preceded in death by his son David William Posey and his parents Floyd and Joy Posey. He is survived in death by his daughter Sandra Palmere(Frank); grandchildren, Jessica Michael, Sydney and Frankie Palmere; great-grandson, Riley Michael; sisters, Jean Pugh(Carlton) and Veda Thompson(Randy); nephews, Nick Thompson(Pam) and Casey Cornelius; niece, Christy Freeman(Bill); great-nieces, nephews and Rikki Lee Thompson, Brody Thompson, Westin Cornelius and Sophie Harris Freeman.
