J. C. Carter, age 87, of Detroit, Alabama, passed away Thursday, March 5th, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening, March 8th, 2015, at the Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 9th, 2015, at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Edward Puckett officiating. Burial in Cooper Cemetery.
J.C. was born June 15th, 1927 in Marion County, Alabama to the late Clete and Ozell Mason Carter. He worked for several years with the Lamar County Commission in District 2. J.C. enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing and deer hunting. He enjoyed cooking out and spending time with his family. J.C. enjoyed life in general.
He is survived by 2 sons, Daniel Ray (Betty Sue) Carter, Sulligent, AL., & Samuel R. (Sarah) Carter, Splunge Community / Greenwood Springs, MS.; 2 daughters, Sandra L. (Joe) Cavender, Greenwood Springs, MS., and Sharon Evonne Hall, Detroit, AL.; 5 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; 6 great-grandsons; 6 great-granddaughters; 1 great-great-grandson; 1 great-great-granddaughter; 1 brother, Arthie V. Carter, Detroit, AL; 1 sister, Opal Irvin, Hamilton, AL; several Nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by he is parents, Clete and Ozell Carter; His wife, Betty Jo Sorrells Carter; 1 daughter, Shirley Ann Carter; 1 grandson, Travis Carter; 1 son-in-law: Mickey Lynn Hall; 1 sister, Maxine Boone; 3 brothers, Floyd Carter, Lecil Carter, and Ray Carter.
