Loyd Thomas Ratterree – Obituary

Loyd Thomas Ratterree passed away Friday, February 13, 2015, at the age of 92. Mr. Ratterree was born on December 7, 1922, in New Concord, Kentucky. He attended Murray State College in Murray, Kentucky, and graduated from Tampa Business College in 1948. Mr. Ratterree was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II where he served on the USS Slater (DE 766) as a fire control man second class. He was a “plank owner.” Mr. Ratterree retired from Texaco, Inc. and later Scotty’s Builders Supply in Tampa, FL. He also was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. He is preceded in death by his parents, Loyd Thomas Ratterree and Susan Jane Rowlett Ratterree; and grandson, Shannon Thomas Seay.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carmen Ratterree; daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Wendell Seay of Decatur; brothers, James Ratterree (Imogene) of Jacksonville, FL, and Brice Ratterree (Christine) of Murray, KY; sisters, Mary Ruedean Fielder of Portage, MI, and Amy Nell Wilkinson of DeWitt, MI; granddaughter, Wendy Maria Seay of Huntsville and great- granddaughter, Lilli Opperman of Woodstock, GA.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Alabama, 3311 Bob Wallace Avenue, Suite. 101, Huntsville, AL 35805.
