Christa Barbin – Obituary

F001549467_1_20150201Christa Barbin passed away January 30, 2015, at her home on Paradise Shores Road following a lengthy illness. She was born July 11, 1941, in Augsburg Germany to Joseph and Marie Spies. She was a loving wife, master gardener, and had a passion for cooking and baking. She was known for her generous and loving spirit and was always baking or cooking for friends and family. She had a special love for her dog, Mikki (deceased) , who she was looking forward to seeing again.

Christa was preceded in death by her parents and one stepson, Gregory Barbin.

She is survived by her loving husband, Troy; a son, Roland Goepel (Belinda), from Germany; one grandson, Dennis Goepel; one stepson, Keith D. Barbin; and four stepgrandchildren, Kristine, Mindy, Jennifer, and Keith Jr.; and two brothers, Max Spies and Robert Spies (Gisella), from Germany. She also left behind many loving and caring nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Spry Funeral Home in Athens with a memorial service to follow at 10 a.m. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Charles Alookaran of the St. Paul Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association .

The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Weirich and Dr. Neal, and their staffs for their special love and care over the years. Also a special thank you to Hospice of the Valley.
