Melvin Lawrence Elkins, age 58, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015.

Visitation will be today, 6-9 p.m., and Sunday, 1-2 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with a family member officiating. Interment will follow in Shoals Memorial Gardens.

Melvin was a humble and gentle spirit. His heart and smile were uplifting for anyone who needed it. He brought joy with his genuine love and laughter. For such a humble man, he had the gift of inner strength. Heaven is now blessed with his presence, surrounded by his Maker and parents. We were blessed he was part of our lives.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Melvin Lawrence Elkins Sr. and Saline Campbell Elkins.

Surviving him in death are his loving wife of 39 years, Cindy Elkins; children, Tyler and wife, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Eve, and Trevor Elkins; grandchildren, Hannah and Jaydon; siblings, Steve Elkins (Paula), Mark Elkins (Teresa), and Wanda Ketcham (Sandy); aunts, Marcelle Norton and Verna Thorne; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, cherished friends and co-workers.

Pallbearers are Greg Sharp, Kenny Myhan, Lennie Williams, Michael Wade, Doug Bumpas, Bill Brown, Danny Keenum, and Walter Abel.

Honorary pallbearer is his special friend, Dennis “Bubba” Bevis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Melvin L. Elkins Memorial Account for son, Trevor Elkins, to Bank Independent, P.O. Box 5000, Sheffield, AL 35660.

Melvin’s family expresses special thanks to Helen Keller Hospital Oncology unit for their support and care.
