Martha Blake “Tittoo” Timberlake died peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at the age of 91. Martha was a life-long resident of Sheffield, Alabama until the last six years when she and her husband moved to Highland Lake, Alabama to be with family. She graduated from Auburn University where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and was elected Auburn’s May queen in 1943. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sheffield, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. The class most dear to her heart was the class for children with special needs. She participated in several productions with Time Out for Theater at the Ritz, Sheffield. Martha and Lewis owned and operated Timberlake Hardware, Sheffield, for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeptha Hill (Edna) Blake, grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Wyatt Heflin Blake Sr., and brother, Dr. Thomas Matthews (“Peter”) Blake.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Lewis R. Timberlake; sons, Don (Sherry) Timberlake and Tom Timberlake and beloved Tena Walters; daughter, Martha (Jimmy) Hickman; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one niece.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at 1 p.m.at Oakwood Cemetery, Hatch Boulevard, Sheffield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church or Sheffield Public Library, Sheffield, Alabama, or to Oneonta Public Library (221 2nd Street South, Oneonta, AL 35121).
