Virgil Ellis “Vic” Pruitt, 70, of Ramsey, New Jersey, passed from this life Jan. 14, 2015, at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood.
Virgil was born in Pruitton, Alabama, and grew up in Lawrence County, Tennessee. He lived in Franklin Lakes before moving to Ramsey 36 years ago. He attended St. Paul’s Church in Ramsey. Virgil was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement in 2008, Virgil was a postal clerk with the Franklin Lakes Post Office for 25 years.
Preceding him in death were parents, Bob and Dora Pruitt; brother and sister-in-law, Elvis and Becky Pruitt; a sister, Dellarene Craig; baby brothers Odis Ray and Randy Bill; and sister-in-law Wilma Pruitt.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy, of Ramsey; sons, Victor, of Keller, Texas, and Dale (Kristina), of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kylee and Jackson; sisters, Willodean Grinnell, of Loretto, Tenn., and Helen Pruitt (Tommy), of Florence, Alabama; and brother, Junior Pruitt, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
Visitation was held Jan. 18 at the VanderPlaat Funeral Home, Wyckoff, New Jersey. A prayer service was held Monday, Jan. 19 with a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah, New Jersey.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Busby Church of God in Loretto, Tennessee, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31. Visitation with local family members to follow.
