Patricia Lee Lawson Kilgro traded time for eternity on Saturday, January 17, 2015, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her mother, Muriel Hafley. She is survived by her nine children, Jackie Chitwood, Kathleen DeMarco, Colleen Jones (Jimmy), Michele Adams (Jimmy), Johnny Kilgro (Tammie), Patricia Tucker (Michael), Lori Odom, Thomas Kilgro (Maria), Christy Jackson (Dale); 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Patricia was born on June 10, 1932, in Teaneck, New Jersey. She moved to Fort Payne in 1970. She graduated nursing school in 1974 and began her nursing career at DeKalb County Hospital. She worked on the OB floor for many years and has touched many lives in town through being present for numerous births. She was admired greatly by her collaegues. After her retirement from nursing, she was a volunteer for CASA where she helped many of the needy in her community. She was an avid sports fan who loved her Fort Payne Wildcats. Auburn Tigers and New York Yankees. She was seen through the years at the basketball and football games cheering for her children and grandchildren.
Patricia was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. She served as the Sacristan of the Church, Treasurer of the Women’s Club, and a member of the Parish Council. Patricia was a longtime member of the Women’s Cursillo Team number 132 serving as a group prayer leader. She was a spiritual inspiration to many with her leadership.
Visitation was at Burt Funeral Home in Fort Payne on Sunday, January 18, 2015, beginning with the rosary at 5:30 p.m. Visitation followed from 6 to 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass was at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015, with Father Mark Spruill officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or a memorial may be made to the educational building fund to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
