Melanie F. McGhee, age 67, of Huntsville, died on Tuesday January 13, 2015
Melanie was born on May 7, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. She spent her childhood in various states due to her father’s career, and settled in Huntsville in 1962. Melanie married her high school sweetheart, and they had 3 children. After his passing, she entered school and graduated from North Alabama College of Commerce in 1985. Melanie worked with Teledyne Brown for several years, and also worked in the legal community before retiring when the grandchildren began arriving. She later married Roderick McGhee and enjoyed her retired life surrounded by her grandchildren, and later, great grandchildren. She was strong in her faith, and was involved for several years through Heritage Baptist Church. Melanie is preceded in death by her husband Roderick McGhee.
Melanie is survived by her son, Carl A. Free and wife Tangie; her daughters, Kim Holman and Kristin Pope; her brothers, Floyd “Buster” Bolt, Chuck Bolt, Wayne Bolt, and Tim Bolt; her sister Cheryl Gurnee and husband Chris; her grandchildren, Jessica Turney and husband Greg, Jeremy Pope and wife Sheena, Courtney Free, Emily Pope, and Shaughnesssy Toews; her great grandchildren, Megan Green and Savannah Pope; her sisters in law, Juanita Schoonover and Betty Evans; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 24, 2015 at 12 pm in the chapel of Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. The family will receive friends on that day from 11am until 12pm at the funeral home.
