Robert Merchant, age 69, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away Wednesday morning, January 14th, 2015, at his residence.

Visitation, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, January 15th, 2015, at Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 16th, 2015, at the funeral home chapel. Bro. Stephen Cantrell and Bro. Edward Puckett officiating. Burial in Sulligent City Cemetery.

Pallbearers, Teddy Gunter, Eddie Gunter, Tyler Gunter, Thad Gunter, Bobby Woolbright and Wayne McDonald. Honorary pallbearers, Coffee drinking friends at Jack Rabbit Slims.

Robert was born May 4th 1945, in Clay County, Mississippi to the late James “Jim” David and Icie Faye Humphreys Merchant. He attended school in Sulligent and Vernon. Robert worked as a mechanic for many years at Glenn Enterprises and United Furniture. He was a member of Sulligent First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Nell Merchant, Sulligent, AL.; brother, Travis Merchant, Hatley, MS.; sister, Bertha (Bobby) Woolbright, Vernon, AL.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Jim” David and Icie Faye Humphreys Merchant; and brother, James Ray Merchant.*
