Fern Ruth (Rohrer) Barnhart – Obituary

FernFern Ruth (Rohrer) Barnhart passed away January 8, 2014 in Huntsville, AL at the age of 93. She was born Sept. 19, 1921 in North Manchester, IN, grew up in Oak Park, IL and graduated from Manchester College in N. Manchester, IN where she met her future husband Richard E. Barnhart.

She is survived by her son Don Barnhart, daughter Barbara Milnor, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, her two sisters, June Edsell and Miriam Smith, and brother James.

Fern and Dick was very active at the Peoples Church in East Lansing, MI where they lived for over 40 years. She was president and longtime member of P.E.O., volunteered at Sparrow Hospital, and organized craft and sewing fund raising bazaars for various causes. She was interested in family, friends, reading and music. Fern was an accomplished musician playing the cello for both the Cedar Rapids, IA and Grand Forks, ND symphonies. She was an active Board of Directors member and President of the Burcham Hills Cluster Condominium Association in East Lansing.

A memorial service will be held in May at the Peoples Church in E. Lansing, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you send contributions to benefit the Never2Late program at Harbor Chase.
