Mabel Herring Kennedy – Obituary

mabelMabel Herring Kennedy, 91, Red Bay, Alabama, passed into heaven on Dec. 26, 2014. She was born to Raymond and Sophia Herring. She graduated from Hodges school in Hodges, Alabama, in 1941. Her father was determined for her to go to college. She graduated from Florence State Teachers College in 1945 and went on to teach many third-graders over a 36-year career. She married Virgil R. Kennedy on Aug. 16, 1946, and they were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Red Bay.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at First Baptist Church in Red Bay, with Brother Larry Hill officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, will be in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her loving son, Steve Kennedy and wife, Patsy, of Fayette, Alabama; three grandchildren, Chris and Amy Kennedy Turner, Patrick and Karen Kennedy and Brad and Kasey Kennedy; eight great-grandchildren, Paige, Caleb, Joshua, Bella, Ensleigh, Tyler, Bentley and Annelise; several nieces and nephews.
She will also be missed by her special friends, Shirley Bostick, Barbara and Gene Kennedy, Edna Gibson, Margie Pharr, Ruth and Vic Jackson, Peggy Cox, Jeanette Pearson, many friends in her Sunday School Class, Brother Larry Hill and neighbors in the Banner community.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Lorene Sullivan; and her brother, Lamar Herring.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Kennedy, Brad Kennedy, Chris Turner and Paul Cleveland.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at First Baptist Church, Red Bay.
