Ray Jones, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Tuesday. Ray was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked for IBM for 32 years. In high school, Ray was a star football and baseball player, and went on to pitch for a Minor league team for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church. Ray was also an avid Alabama fan, never missing a game. He was devoted to his family and he passed away surrounded by the people he loved.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen Jones; children, Darrell Jones and Eva Mears; six grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew.
The funeral service was 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Jackson officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery.
