Thomas Orum Rice, Sr., 88 of Athens, Alabama died on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at his home.
Born Tuesday, November 30, 1926 in Wedowee, Alabama, he was the son of the late Thomas Lincoln Rice and the late Ola Overton Rice. He was the husband of Fern Ford Rice.
He served as a SSgt in the US Air Force and served his country in WWII. He enjoyed guns and hunting and was a member of New Home Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son: Thomas Orum Rice, Jr.
Surviving are his wife of almost 64 years: Fern Elaine Ford Rice of Athens, AL, sons, Johnathan Hale (Becky) Rice of Ardmore, AL and Rodney Lee (Danielle) Rice of Newnan, GA, daughters, Teresa Elaine Hearn of Jasper, GA, Trudy Lynn (Denny) Smith of Canton, GA and Sheila Ann (David) Wilson of Bremen, GA, grandchildren: Thomas Rice III, Niema L. Rice, Ivy Rice, Cassie Rice, Lincoln Rice, Nelson (Jessica) Hearn, Ryan Hearn, Carmen Rice, Amber Rice, Mitch Rice, Lillian Rice, Emma Rice, Bonny Smith, Natalie (Josh) Akin, Dennis Smith, Hunter Smith, Johnathan Wilson, Brittany Wilson, and Corey Wilson, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama with Nelson Hearn, John Rice, Tommy Rice, and Rodney Rice officiating. Burial will be in New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Pisgah, AL.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 12, 2014, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama.
