ATHENS -Athens State University will be hosting two separate Holiday Programs in the upcoming weeks.
Athens State University’s Center for Lifelong Learning will host a Christmas concert by solo handbell artist Danny Lyons with guest ringers the
Bellissimo Handbell Quartet. The event is scheduled for Sunday, December 7 at 3:00 p.m. in McCandless Hall on the Athens State campus.
Lyons rings an entire 3 octave set of handbells, 37 bells in all. He has toured across the United States, as well as Europe and The Bahamas playing solo handbell concerts and teaching the art of handbells.
This concert is free and open to the public through the Livingston Concert Lecture Series and the Athens State Center for Lifelong Learning. Seating is limited; please call 256-233-8262 for reservations.
The Athens State University Community Band, under the direction of Dan Havely, is gearing up for their annual Christmas Concert. The concert will be held in the Carter Gymnasium on Pryor Street on the northern border of campus.
The concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 14th at 3:00 p.m. The concert is
free and open to the public courtesy of the Livingston Concert Lecture Series with no reservations required.
A reception hosted by the Athens State Alumni Association will be held following the afternoon performance in the gymnasium. There will be surprise visit from Santa at the reception. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and may take their own photos.
