Roland Earl Brown – Obituary

rolandRoland Earl Brown, 77, of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospital surrounded by his loving family on November 27, 2014.

Roland was born in Gordo, AL, and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1956. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he was honorably discharged in 1962. He then returned to Tuscaloosa where he graduated with honors from the University of Alabama in 1965. Roland then moved his young family to Huntsville, AL to begin his career in Public Accounting with Ernst & Ernst. Roland served the community in a long career in private C.P.A. practice before becoming the first Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Intergraph Corporation in 1979. He retired from Intergraph in 1985 and subsequently founded Brown Precision, Inc. in 1986. Brown Precision, Inc. is ongoing in Huntsville today.

Roland was the oldest of nine children born to the late Daniel and Lorene Brown of Gordo, AL and was the beloved husband of Melna Brown for 54 years.

Roland is survived by his wife Melna; sons, Greg (Kerri) and Dan (Wanda); daughters, Donna Brown Torgerson (Will) and Susan Brown Duncan (Jack); thirteen grandchildren; brothers, Daniel Riley Brown and Jeffery Brown; and sisters, Rita Thomas, Bonnie Wharton and Janice Walters.

A visitation with the family will be held on Monday, December 1st at Whitesburg Baptist Church Chapel at The ROC at 9:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers all donations be sent to the Heart Center at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
