Mary Glenn Pryor, 93, of Newark, formerly of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Autumn Healthcare in Newark.
She was born March 18, 1921, in Orville, Alabama, a daughter of the late Charles Webb Moore and Blanche Isabel (Hillman) Moore. She was a graduate of Alabama College and held a master’s degree in Library Science from Purdue University. She had worked for the Madison County (Alabama) School System for 35 years, first as a teacher, then as coordinator of Library Services. Mrs. Pryor was a member of Our Lady of Visitation Catholic Church in Alabama and the Sodality of the Blessed Lady and served as parish librarian. She did volunteer work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Meals On Wheels. In Newark, she attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening and collecting decorative cups and saucers. Using her educational skills and training, she also enjoyed being the family historian.
Surviving is her daughter Mary Webb (Sterling) Prophet of Newark; a son Charles William (Erica) Pryor of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren Marie Dominique “Nikki” (James) Wuelleh, Cory Arthur Prophet, Claudia Christina Blanche (Shawn) Meckley, Elizabeth Anne Prophet; great-grandchildren, James Lee Esselstein, Anthony Quinton Joseph Johnson, Shawn Alexander Meckley, Jayde Michelle Meckley; one great-great grandchild, Elijah James Esselstein; a brother Charles Webb Moore, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur William Pryor in 1981; one brother, Will and one sister, Annie.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 10:00 am until 11:30 am at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church. Services will follow the visitation at 11:30 am. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens following the services.
