Sara Redding Sewell Dement passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, in Decatur. Sara was born in Trinity to her parents, Ruth Emens Sewell and John Banks Sewell Sr., both of whom predeceased her.
Sara attended public school in Decatur and upon graduation from Decatur High School she attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans and was graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Business. She spent her life in service to other people.
Sara is survived by her sons, John Paxton Dement (Paige) of Atlanta and Lewis Ashton Dement (Kale) of Decatur; grandchildren, Parker and Annsley Dement of Atlanta, and Lawson, Banks and Hampton Dement of Decatur; sisters, Mary Frances Worley (Joe) and Dorcas Harris (Dick Reeves), both of Huntsville, Rudy Jordan of Franklin, Tennessee; and brother Jack Sewell (Mitzi) of Belle Mina.
A visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 3 at St. John’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall in Decatur followed by a Memorial service at the church at 2 p.m.
