Bernard Michael Palicki passed away in his sleep on October 17, 2014 after a yearlong illness.
Bernard was born June 25, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio where he met and married Anita Gomez. They remained married for 60 years when Anita passed away March 12, 2012. October 23rd, 2014 would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anita, two sons Stephen and Danny, four brothers, Tony, Jack, Ray, and Eddie, and sisters, Martha, Virginia, and Dorothy.
He is survived by his three children – Tony, Barbara, and Amy, and eight grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren and his sister Geraldine Klocko of Toledo, Ohio.
Bernie was a Korean War veteran in the 3400th Trng Sq (Radar) on the B52. After the Air Force he worked for IBM for 30 years on the B52 program and saw the program through three modifications. After retiring from IBM he worked for McDonnell Douglas on the Space Station data system. He enjoyed politics and economics and was a published author and he proudly flew the flag in his front yard every day. He was a member of the American Legion and served on the Honor Guard detail as long as his health allowed him. He enjoyed studying history and had a great appreciation for the US constitution and the founding principles of our country.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Bernard’s strong Catholic faith, demonstrated daily by his words and deeds served as an inspiration to many. He was a member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church and served as a lector for the church.
Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at Spry Funeral Home.
The Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 in the chapel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Hughes Road in Madison, AL. A funeral mass will begin at 11am. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery following the service.
The family requests no flowers, but contributions in memory of Bernard Palicki may be made to St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison.
