Truman L. Carter, II, longtime beloved Lee County Deputy Sheriff and all around good man, approached his notification of pancreatic cancer 9 months ago with a positive approach saying, “whether I go or whether I stay, I’m a winner”. He won the victory at 9:37 AM Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the Cancer Centers of America Southeast Hospital in Newnan, Georgia. Truman was born in Amory on May 4, 1963, the son of Bro. Truman Carter, Sr. and Josephine Herndon Carter Howard. He grew up there and in Hamilton, Alabama and graduated from Hatley High School in 1982 where he was Mr. Hatley High and was elected class President on the motto, “the man with the plan to make school cool”. He was a member of the Carnation Baptist Church in Okolona. Truman always wanted to be in law enforcement and, at this death, had been a Deputy Sheriff with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department for 19 years winning numerous citations and awards. He was tough but compassionate and drew high marks for his service to his fellow man. Truman was a born musician, songwriter and performer. He loved entertaining, playing guitar and bass guitar and singing in Church. He enjoyed fishing, loved the area’s fish eateries and was a great southern storyteller and avid conversationalist. He will be sorely missed by all.
