James Lenard “Redbone” Johnson, 76, of Decatur, died on October 12, 2014, at his residence. He was born June 15, 1938, in Columbia, Tennessee, to Ruth Johnson Arnold. Jim graduated from high school in 1956 and joined the Army in January, 1958. He served for three years with 18 months of his service being in Okinawa, Japan. He lived in Tennesee until 1961 when he moved to North Alabama.
Jim met the love of his life, Shelley, in 1976. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage prior to his passing. They enjoyed traveling, especially to the Smoky Mountains in the fall, playing bingo and anything to do with the University of Tennessee athletics. Jim retired from 3M in 1998 after 31 years of working as a maintenance mechanic. He was a hard worker who loved to tease those around him. Jim was member of Austinville United Methodist Church in
Survivors include his wife, Shelley Hawkins Johnson; one sister, Sharon Arnold Aurand (Chuck); one brother, Lon Arnold III (Sonya); and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 15, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Austinville United Methodist Church with Reverend Dallas Culver officiating. A fellowship lunch will be held immediately after the service at the church. All are invited to attend.
