TUSCUMBIA-The 2014 Tuscumbia Civitan Christmas Ornament is now available. It is the 19th in the series of Colbert County Historical Landmarks. This year the ornament features Tennessee Valley Country Club, Tuscumbia in the 3 dimensional gold dated ornaments.
The ornaments are available at Fiddledee D!, Cold Water Books, David Reed State Farm, and Valley Credit Union in Tuscumbia and from any Tuscumbia Civitan.
The ornaments are $12 each. The proceeds from the ornament sales are used to fund the many projects of the Civitan Club such as: Meals on Wheels, Safeplace, CASA, Cerebral Palsy Center, Helen Keller Library, American Legion Boys & Girls State, Civitan International Research Center and the Youth Leadership Forum.
This brick mansion was acquired by the Tennessee Valley Country Club in 1920. It was built by A. S. Christian in 1826 and occupied at times by the Winston, Lindsay, Merrill, McWilliams, and Whitlock families. The house was originally surrounded by a landscaped park of 50 acres. Its exterior shows traces of Greek cornice detail which is unusual in this area.
