THE SHOALS-The October 4 version of the Swampette Music Tour will be a little scarier that usual. Sponsored by the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism office, the “Bewitching Swampette Tour” has a Halloween theme. Participants who dress in costumes will receive free tickets to the Arx Mortis haunted attraction in Killen.
The tour which is set for noon to 4 pm, will be led by “Swampette” Judy Hood, the wife of bass player David Hood, one of the famous Swampers — a group of session musicians who crafted the Muscle Shoals Sound.
Traveling on a trolley bus, the tour begins at the new Visitor Center in McFarland Park and includes visits to area music venues — the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, FAME Studios and 3614 Jackson Highway, which was the home to Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. Cost is $35 per person.
Seating is limited and tours fill quickly. Call the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism office at 256-740-4141 for reservations.
