FLORENCE – On Thursday, September 25 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., there will be a public rally in downtown Florence at Wilson Park to bring awareness to the issue of potential tar sands (also known as oil sands) mining in Lawrence, Colbert and Franklin Counties in northwest Alabama.
Rally organizer, Nancy Muse, says “This is the second rally that is being hosted by the Alabama Rivers Alliance and Tennessee
Riverkeeper. This rally #2 provides another great opportunity for friends and family to bring lawn chairs and picnics and have a fun night listening to great music in Wilson Park while gaining useful, updated information about proposed mining of tar sands in the Shoals and the resulting consequences. We are grateful to these great Muscle Shoals musicians donating their time and talent for the cause.”
Music at the rally will be provided by The Fiddleworms, Max Russell and The Shakedown Kings, Blind the Sky, and an acoustic trio featuring Eddie Martin, Tony Lee, Malcolm Singleton. There will be speakers and the evening will end with a candlelight vigil.
Everyone is invited. Bring family and friends, the kids, lawn chairs, a picnic and candles.
The rally is sponsored by Alabama Rivers Alliance and Tennessee Riverkeeper.
