DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department made a routine traffic stop and discovered the driver had several outstanding warrants for Failure to Appear. Here is how the Decatur Police describe events leading up to the arrest of the driver and the passenger in his car:
SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
“On September 11, 2014 members of Decatur Police Department’s Special Operations Division conducted a traffic stop on a white Eclipse at the corner of Canal St. and Vine St. NE.
The driver was identified as Larondrick Macklin and the passenger was identified as Benjamin Howlet Jr. During the course of the stop it was determined that Macklin had a suspended drivers license as well as two warrants through Decatur for Failure to Appear. Additional warrants through Huntsville Police Department for failure to appear were also discovered.
Officer Wesley Swoopes and his K-9 “Pack” arrived on scene to assist. Officer Swoopes
deployed “Pack” around the vehicle and then advised “Pack” was indicating the odor of narcotics coming from inside the vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle a quantity of crack cocaine was located.
Larondrick Macklin was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving while Suspended and two counts of Failure to Appear through Decatur Police Department.
Macklin will later be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $3,000.00 bond after his two warrants are satisfied through Decatur.
Benjamin Howlet Jr. was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. Howlet will later be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $2,500.00 bond.”
