DECATUR-UPDATE on shooting that took place on Tuesday night, September 9th. This is how Decatur Police say the case has progressed so far:
SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
“On September 9, 2014 at 8:30 pm, Morgan County Central Dispatched received a call of a man who had been shot in the 1800 block of Windover Pl SW Decatur, Morgan County, AL.
Officers with the Decatur Police Department’s Patrol Division and Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the call. Offices located the victim Ronald Reedus who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his back.
Reedus was transported to Huntsville Hospital where he underwent surgery.
During the course of the investigation officers learned that Reedus was involved in a verbal altercation with Cashin Wheeler. During the altercation Wheeler armed himself with a handgun. Wheeler fired at Reedus striking him once in the back.
Wheeler fled the scene. Officers searched the area for Wheeler but were unable to locate him.
On September 10, 2014 Wheeler turned himself in at the Decatur Police Department. He was escorted to the Decatur City Jail where he was charged and booked into the jail for Assault 2nd Degree. Morgan County District Judge Brent Craig set Wheeler’s bond at $25,000.00 cash.
Reedus has been released from Huntsville Hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.”
