Pauline (Polly) Sudduth Roach, 85, died peacefully, with her daughter at her side, Friday morning, September 5, after a brief illness. Polly was born in Huntsville, AL, and moved to Florence in 1959 with her late husband, George. Polly was an avid Alabama Football fan, collecting elephants (trunks up only) and decorating her kitchen in crimson and white. She loved to cook, especially for family events, but was always ready to help George with catered events. Polly was active in the First United Methodist Church Ladies Bible Study group and Congregational Care for Homebound congregation members as long as her health allowed. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Roach, and a daughter, Mary Beth McDade. She is survived by daughters; Polly Hyatt (Tom) of Alpharetta, GA, and Lila Stapler (Steve Price) of Sheffield; a son, James (Pete) Roach (HeeRyong) of Seoul, South Korea; grandchildren, Aaron Stapler (Ashton), Ben Hyatt, Zada Hyatt, Hannah Roach, and Abigail Roach; and sister, Virginia Hill. Polly is also survived by many loving friends, including Mary Haley, Vera Snoddy, Jackie Breed, Catherine Grigg, Janice Sandlin, and Ginny Hawkins. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 9, 2014, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Spry Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Greenview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation (in memory of Mary McDade), the Tuberous Sclorosis Foundation (in honor of Ben Hyatt) or the First United Methodist Church (in memory of Polly Roach).
