Edward Blakemore Whitten – Obituary

Edward Blakemore Whitten, 89, a native and resident of Lauderdale County, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at his residence. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church, and the former owner and operator of Whitten’s Shell Station.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. John Brock, and the Rev. Chris Underwood . Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Whitten was preceded in death by his parents, Early V. and Myrtle Blanche White Whitten; infant brother, Leland Whitten; son, E. Michael Whitten.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Faydean Thornton Whitten; son, Randle Whitten (Wanda); daughters, Dianna Hawk (Ronnie), Connie Clark (Danny); daughter-in-law, Deborah Whitten; brother, Ernest Whitten; sisters, Grace Gautney, Myrtle Thompson, Bessie Mae England all of Florence; grandchildren, Marty Whitten (Stephanie) of Helena, Ala., Lori Gardner (David) of Killen, Josh Whitten, LaLana Hawk, Leah Whitten all of Florence, Drake Clark (Chenoa) of Meridianville, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Emma Whitten of Helena, Ala., Maylie and Dominic Clark both of Meridianville, Ala.

Active pallbearers will be Marty Whitten, Josh Whitten, Drake Clark, David Gardner, Stephen Davidson, and Tim England.

Honorary pallbearers will be Reggie Bruce and Hansford Wilson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lyman Mitchell and Pam Hill, CRNP and staff, Gentiva Home Health and Hospice of the Tennessee Valley.

Memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
