Osceolia ” OJ ” Mullins
O.J Mullins passed and left this earth on Saturday and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We, his family, thank God for such a wonderful man.
O.J was born in Moores Mill, Alabama. He met his wife, Mildred Yell Mullins, on a blind date and married her on October 24, 1950. They were married for 59 years.
O.J served his country proudly in the United States Army. He served in the Korean War and traveled all over the United States as well as Germany and France. He used to say that not many boys went straight from the cotton fields to the Eiffel tower.
O.J practiced accounting for over fifty years. He graduated in the first graduating accounting class at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1957. He owned his own practice, Mullins Accounting, and then served in the capacity of consultant for Mullins & Snyder Accounting with his son-in-law and daughter. He also worked for Woodmen of the World and truly enjoyed the insurance business. He considered his clients as lifelong friends and greeted everyone with a smile. Accounting was not just a job for him, it was his passion. Even in his last days on earth, he asked his family if he could go to work.
O.J was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Yell Mullins; his parents, DeWitt Mullins and Effie Lones Mullins, his sisters Irene Mullins and Hazel Mullins Burgess; and his brothers, James Mullins, Robert Mullins, and Alvin (Lidge) Mullins.
O.J is survived by his only daughter, Gena Mullins Snyder and her husband Randall; two beloved granddaughters, Aimee Colleen Mullins Hardage, and Anna Catherine Mullins Snyder, all of Hazel Green; special niece Joany Ann Zilke, husband Scott and son Jacob of Wilmington, N.C; and sister-in-law, Lois Selby Mullins of Hazel Green. He leaves many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. He loved each and every one.
Visitation will be at Spry Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 12:30 until 1:30pm. A graveside service will follow at 2:00pm at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. Tommy Bolan officiating.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to all of the staff members at Southern Care Hospice. You all were so kind and thoughtful and O.J truly appreciated you and thought you were the very best.
