Hazel Sellers McDowra – Obituary

Hazel Sellers McDowra, 100 years old, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Hazel was born August 21, 1913, to John Milton and Meady Margaret Sellers in Bessemer. She was 

a member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church for 70 years. Hazel was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was also an Avon representative for 23 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, John Clark McDowra; her brothers, Roscoe, G.W., Luther, Ernest and Monroe; and sisters, Etta Mae Kanzady, Lorene and Juanita.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Charles) Davis and son, Johnny (Camilla) McDowra; three brothers, Leonard (Dorothy), Jemes L. (Ruth) and Robert (Bonnie); Margaret Sellers, widow of G.W.; 

grandchildren, Tim (Michele), Tom (Carrie) Davis, John T. (Karen) McDowra and Sabra M. (Danny) Davis; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Ray, Sloan Davis, Hayden Davis, John R., Thomas and Reed McDowra; great-great-grandchild, Porter Ray; a host of nieces and nephews and a special friend and 

caregiver for nine years, Ann Garrett.

Graveside services will be Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Reverend Jonathan Henderson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children Home in Decatur.
