Wilma Sutton Cogdell, age 82, passed away Wednesday. She was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Blue Goose”.
Wilma was born on March 6, 1932 in Pulaski County, KY. In 1959 she married Frank Cogdell, having lived in Atlanta in Memphis. In the 1990’s they retired to the Cogdell Farm at Blue Goose.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Flora Price Sutton; her husband, Frank Cogdell; and her sister, Nancy Weaver.
Wilma was a gifted writer, having written the Blue Goose Community News for the Lexington Progress for many years. In 1996 she published the “Cogdell Ancestry”, which documents her husband, Frank’s, ancestry back to the 1600’s.
Wilma is survived by her sisters-in-law, Flossie Todd and Magrette Young and numerous nephews and nieces. She was lovingly cared for by her special niece, Shirley Delaney and daughter, Kristyn. She also leaves behind her dear friend and neighbor, Mary Jenkins and Brandy and Jennifer Jenkins, whom Wilma and Frank loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 PM at Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington with Billy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at the Cogdell Cemetery in Blue Goose. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to one of the following: Frank and Wilma Codgell Memorial Scholarship Fund at First Bank, c/o 101 W. Church St. Lexington, TN 38351; The Kirkland Cancer Center in Jackson, TN; or to the Henderson County Library, which she used and deeply appreciated.
