George Antoine Schneider, Jr., 91, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 7, 1922 and died in Huntsville, Alabama on July 15. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Odette Rita Edler Schneider; sons, George III and wife, Susan, of Greencastle, Indiana and Stephen Karl Schneider, Sr. and wife, Lynne, of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Stephanie, Michelle, Erika, Stephen Jr. and Krystle; and great-grandchildren, Macie, Taryn, Wade, Maggie, Max, Darren, Hailey and Emma.
George was a LSU graduate of 1947 in Mechanical Engineering, a veteran of WWII and the Korean War, and a Lonestar Industries employee for 41 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George, Sr. and Katherine Newman Schneider; sister, Laura Wattigny; and brother, Paul Joseph Schneider.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Huntsville, Alabama. A funeral Mass will immediately follow at the church with Father Louis Giardino officiating. There will also be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle Indiana. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Greencastle, and burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, also in Greencastle.
