Jane Mahala Harrell, born in Chambers County Alabama, died at Diversicare of Big Springs, where she lived since October 1996. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma (Landrum) Harrell and Alfred Lee Harrell.
Jane had an early interest in medicine, was valedictorian of her high school class, and received her degree from the University of Montevallo. She had an internship at the UAB School of Medicine in 1945. As a medical technologist she worked in Birmingham, Sylacauga, and at the Chambers county hospital. Jane was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists for 50 years. A member of Oak Bowery United Methodist Church, she taught the children’s Sunday school class in the 1960s and 70s. She loved animals, especially dogs. Visits from the animals of Therapy Partners were a great joy in her last years.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Dedman, of Huntsville; niece, Denise Dedman of Michigan; and cousins, Suzanne Smith (Jackson) and Patricia Harp (Landrum).
A graveside service will be held in LaFayette, AL.
