Images of America: Florence by Dr. Carolyn Barske

Florence-Lauderdale Public Library will host the launch for the new book Images of America: Florence. This book contains over 100 pages of historical photographs of places and people in Florence. Each photo has a caption to provide context and give historical information.
This book was edited by Dr. Carolyn Barske, Assistant Professor of Public History at the University of North Alabama, with contributions from three UNA Public History graduate students: Clint Alley, Jesse Brock, and Wesley Garmon. Barske, Alley, Brock, and Garmon will talk about the process of preparing and book and will sign copies. Books will be available for purchase at the event,with proceeds supporting the Public History Center, the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, and the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library’s Digital Archives. AARP Driver Safety Course
Friday, July 25, 9:00 am-4:00 pm
Cars have changed. So have traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads you travel every day. Some drivers age 50+ have never looked back since they got their first driver’s licenses, but even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills with this Driver Safety Course.
You may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing this course, so consult your agent for details. You might also be eligible to receive a discount on roadside assistance plans. AARP membership is not required to take the course and there are no tests to pass.
Pre-registration is required for this course, and seating is limited. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. The course includes a one-hour lunch break.
