ATHENS– Over 275 participated in a recent Multiple Sclerosis Bike Ride on Saturday, June 7. This annual event helps raise funding and awareness for research and support programs for a world free of the disease. Some bikers rode a 25 mile course while others chose 45, 75 or even 100 mile courses.
Athens State University’s Young Alumni Advisory Council (YAAC) manned a rest stop for the 75 and 100 mile riders. They provided fruit, cookies, granola bars and other snacks along with disco music at their disco-themed rest stop. Jeremy Harbin, Laura Allen, Heath Daws, and Advisor Abigail Rizzardi volunteered from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. offering refreshments at Salem Church of Christ.
YAAC was established at Athens State in 2013 to bridge the gap between our students and graduates from Athens College/Athens State College. YAAC’s next event will be a quarterly disc golf tournament in August.
