Dr. Robert A. Halfacre, age 87, of Woodley Terrace, Boaz died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at his residence.
Service will be held today, June 1, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Bro. Chip Vann and Bro. Mike Spivey will be officiating; Johnny C. Brewer will provide the Eulogy. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. McRae Funeral Home, Boaz is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be today from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the church.
Dr. Halfacre was born in Decatur on November 7, 1926, to Alton Hamilton and Lilla May Gray Halfacre. He graduated from Riverside High School in Decatur in 1944, and Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1949. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II as an Aviation Radioman. In 1952, he married Peggy Ruth Lusk in Gadsden. He practiced optometry for more than 50 years. He enjoyed playing drums with “The Sophisticated Swingers”. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and an avid Auburn fan.
Dr. Halfacre is survived by his wife, Peggy Lusk Halfacre; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bruce Morton of Athens and Sally and Richard Grimes of Boaz; grandchildren, John Robert Morton, Melissa Morton Martin and Ken, John Walter and Kasie Grimes and James Matthew Grimes; nine great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ross Fulton and Janet Keener of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Wendy Grimes Poole.

Pallbearers will be John Robert Morton, James Matthew Grimes, Kenneth John Martin, John Walter Grimes, Johnny Coby Brewer and Jonathon Michael Tapp.
