Mr. Maurice Jack Cannon, 86, passed away, Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Limestone Health Facility. He was born to Annie Knight Cannon and William Martin Cannon on February 21, 1928 in Wheelerton, TN. He graduated from Athens Bible School in 1947 and from David Lipscomb College in 1951. He taught school at Belle Mina, Clements and Piney Chapel for more than thirty years. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed coaching basketball at Clements High. He was a active and faithful member of Market Street Church of Christ, teaching Sunday school classes and leading singing for many years. He was greatly loved by many for his philanthropic deeds, always helping those in need. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. He is survived by nephews, Dr. Joe Cannon and wife, Laurie of Athens, Billy Cannon and wife Hedy Lou of Athens, Danny Cannon of MI; niece, Jackie Cannon McGuire and husband, James of Athens, Joyce Hutchins, Fowlerville, MI,, MarySue Iverson, Arlington Heights, IL, and Martha Urban, Elk Grove Village, IL, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be great nephews. Services will be held at Limestone Chapel Funeral with visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 8:00. Funeral will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Basilo Munoz and David Cox officiating. Burial will be in the Athens City Cemetery.
