Jeffrey Ernest Howard – Obituary

Jeffrey Ernest Howard, 54, of Florence, Alabama, passed away on May 27th at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama, of complications from liver cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Howard. Visitation will be at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Monday, June 2nd from 10 to 11 a.m. with the service following in the chapel at 11. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Inc.

Jeff was born in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Colonia and Manchester, Connecticut. All through school, he participated on the track team. He attended the University of New Hampshire at Keene and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, majoring in journalism. While residing at Colebeck Lodge in Florence, he participated in classes and activities at Riverbend Mental Health Center. He was an avid reader, loved people, and enjoyed lengthy conversations about politics, sports, and history. His poetry was enjoyed by many.

Survivors include his mother, Carole Howard Chase; step-father, John Chase; sister, Heather Lindsey; step-sisters, Dr. Carol Chase Thomas and Janene Chase; aunt, Ruth Howard of Hawaii; and uncle, Dick Howard of New York.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Riverbend Center for Mental Health, 635 W. College Street, Florence, Alabama 35630, or the American Cancer Society.
