Grady Lamon – Obituary

Grady Lamon, of Northport, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel. Burial will be in Civitan Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Ashley Woodard, Donald Crawford, Myron Haney, Ruddy Sturm, John Paul Kirchberg, Jesse Woodard, and Jon Woodard.

Grady joined the Marine Corps in 1970, stationed at USMC Logistical Command Barstow California. Upon completion of his military service, He enjoyed a 35-year-career as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Command. Over the span of his career, he worked for PEO Tactical Missile Command and Hellfire, Multiple Launch Rocket Systems in Huntsville, Alabama. While on assignment in the Marshall Islands, he met and married his wife of 26 years, Judith.

After retirement, he moved to Tuscaloosa to be close to his family. He loved his family, Alabama football and enjoyed nothing more than watching his grandsons participate in sports. 

Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Grady and Marvin Inez Lamon, son, Michael Shain Lamon, and brother, Kenneth Lamon. 

He is survived by his wife, Judith Comer Lamon, of Northport; stepchildren, Alicia Byerly, of Chicago, and Lori Byerly (Ashley) Woodard, of Tuscaloosa; grandsons, Jesse and Jon Woodard; sister, Faye Walker, of Huntsville; sister-in-law, Becky Ezell (David) Childers, of Rogersville; and his beloved Mollie dog.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
