Frances Newborn McCoy, 79, Sheffield, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 after an extended illness. Visitation will be Saturday from 12-2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Steve Condra and Terry Jones officiating. The burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Frances was a homemaker who took great pride in “her girls”. Mother was an avid reader and an excellent seamstress who enjoyed making personalized Christmas stockings for family and friends. She will be best remembered for her quick wit and her chicken and dressing.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Joseph Lee McCoy, Sheffield, and her daughters Regina McCoy (Larry Brumbeloe), Sheffield, and Rhonda McCoy, Muscle Shoals, along with her beloved Yorkies Jock and Jesse and her ‘grand-dogs’ Wally, Kiefer, Sydney, and Rosie. She also is survived by her brother Ron Newborn, Muscle Shoals, and family; her aunt, Quay Poole, Booneville, Mississippi; family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Clay and Marie Newborn and her brother-in-law, his wife, and their son, Jim, Mona, and Jim McCoy, Jr.
Pallbearers are Johnny Borden, Larry Brumbeloe, Frankie Hammock, Lloyd Jackson, Terry Lester, Trey McCoy, Alex Newborn, and Bobby Rutledge. Honorary pallbearers are Phares Birdwell and Paula Davis.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brad McAnalley, Paula Davis, Hospice of North Alabama, Shoals Home Healthcare, and Gentiva Home Healthcare for their caring assistance during Frances’ illness. The family also thanks Helen Keller ER and 3rd and 4th floor nursing staff for their compassionate care of Frances during her hospitalizations.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frances’ memory to the charity of your choice.
