Dr. Fred Peeples Bickley Jr., 86, of Athens passed away Monday, May 5th, 2014. Dr. Bickley was born October 18, 1927 in Colbert County to Fred Peeples Bickley Sr. and and Thelma Rhoads Bickley.
A Memorial service will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Athens AL, with a visitation to follow.
He graduated from the Columbia Military Academy in Columbia Tn. in 1945 and was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army from 1945 – 1947.
Dr. Bickley was a graduate of the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry, graduating in 1956. He practiced dentistry in Athens, Alabama for almost 50 years and enjoyed his daily work, caring for his patients, and serving his community.
He was active in the First United Methodist Church of Athens and the Athens Rotary Club, where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was active in the Alabama Dental Association and received the Alabama Dental Association Most Excellent Fellow Award in 1980.
Dr. Bickley was preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, Florence Bickley Grabryan.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Jackson Bickley; his son Fred Peeples Bickley III and wife Dr. Martina Bebin Bickley; two daughters Anna Bickley Cooper and husband James Lawrence Cooper Jr. and Molly Bickley Bowron and husband Lee Bowron. Seven grandchildren James Lawrence Cooper III, Lamar Bickley Cooper, Anna Jackson Cooper, Sarah Brasfield Cooper, Fred Wheeler Bowron, Martha Bickley Bowron, Richard Rhoads Bowron, along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
